Beautiful Soccer in the Rain

Soccer season is going well so far. We've had quite a few wins, to put us at 3-0 in league, and 8-3-2 overall.

A picture of our team with our Champs of Merlin trophy from the Excalibur Tournament in Southern California [Dec 28-Dec 30, 2009]:

Yesterday's game was against our rival and neighbor, Menlo School. As the headlines say, "Sacred Heart Prep Girls Win Key Soccer Match." All morning, the rain poured and poured. But, when I got to school around 1:45pm, it was sunny and clear. Beautiful weather for soccer. During warm-ups, the rain started up a bit... but it seemed like it was going to be sporadic. The first 5-6 minutes of the game, the rain was coming down super heavy. [Apparently, the rain was not planning on being "sporadic."] Then, lightning showed up. As per the rules, we stopped the game and brought all the kids into the locker rooms for a mandatory 10 minute break. By the end of those 10 minutes, rain was gone... we started up play again. Our team finished a goal off a corner kick shortly thereafter to secure a 1-0 lead, which we kept through halftime. By the end of halftime, the rain was coming down again. We were soaked. We managed to finish off the game, putting in another goal with about 11 minutes left in play. 2-0 win over our rivals. BEAT MENLO.

Local Palo Alto Weekly News Article on the game can be found: HERE.

Last week's win over Priory also produced a nice news article, which can be found: HERE

We're now leading in league with a 3-0 record. Castilleja behind us with a 2-1 record. Then, Menlo and Priory both with 1-1-1 records. Mercy-Burlingame and NDSJ follow behind that.
